We’ve installed a lot of gutters over the years. Aluminum, vinyl, steel, galvanized — we’ve worked with all of it. And after all that experience, copper is the only material we actively recommend to our customers. Not because it’s the most expensive option, but because it’s simply the best one.
Here’s what we tell every homeowner who asks us what we’d put on our own house.
They Outlast Everything Else
The gutters we install in copper today will likely still be on your home when your grandchildren are making decisions about the place. Copper gutters routinely last 50 to 100 years — we’ve seen original copper installations on homes built generations ago that are still performing beautifully.
Compare that to aluminum, which typically needs replacing every 15 to 20 years, and the math changes fast. Our copper installations cost more upfront, but most of our customers never have to call us again for a replacement. That’s not great for repeat business — but it’s the honest truth, and it’s why so many of our customers refer their neighbors to us.
Almost Zero Maintenance
One of our favorite things to tell customers: after we finish the installation, the hardest part of owning copper gutters is cleaning the leaves out twice a year. That’s it.
Copper doesn’t rust. It doesn’t crack in winter or warp in summer heat. There’s no paint or coating to chip, fade, or peel. Over time it develops a natural patina — that rich blue-green finish you’ve seen on old courthouses and historic homes — which actually strengthens the metal’s resistance to the elements. If you’d rather preserve the original warm copper look, we can seal it at installation to slow the oxidation process.
We stand behind everything we install, and with copper, we rarely hear from customers after the job is done. That’s exactly how it should be.
The Craftsmanship Difference
Copper gutters require a different level of skill to install correctly. Every joint is hand-soldered. Fasteners have to be stainless steel or copper — never aluminum, which reacts with copper and corrodes. Expansion gaps need to be calculated precisely. Done right, a copper gutter system is virtually indestructible. Done wrong, even the best material can fail early.
This is why we’d caution against hiring a general contractor or a handyman for copper work. Our team has installed copper gutters on everything from historic Victorian homes to brand-new custom builds, and that experience shows in the quality of the finished product. We’re happy to show you examples of our past installations — just ask.
They’re Beautiful
We’re proud of the work we do, and copper lets us do work we’re genuinely proud of. There’s no gutter material that comes close to the warmth and character of copper — whether it’s the bright, gleaming finish right after installation or the soft verdigris it develops over the years.
Copper looks particularly striking on:
- Historic and traditional homes — Colonial, Victorian, Craftsman, and Tudor styles
- Brick and stone exteriors, where the warm tones complement the masonry beautifully
- High-end modern homes looking for a natural material with real presence
If you’ve ever driven past a home and thought that house just looks right — there’s a good chance copper was part of why.
They Add Value to Your Home
Buyers and appraisers notice copper gutters. In most markets, they’re recognized as a premium feature that signals quality construction and careful ownership. Homeowners who’ve had us install copper gutters often mention them specifically when they go to sell — because buyers ask about them.
There’s also the practical appeal: a home with copper gutters is a home where the gutters won’t need replacing for decades. That’s a real selling point.
A Sustainable Choice
Copper is one of the most recycled materials on the planet. It can be reclaimed and reused indefinitely without losing any of its properties. When a set of copper gutters eventually comes down after 80 years, the metal goes right back into circulation. That’s a very different story from vinyl, which ends up in a landfill.
We care about doing work that lasts and materials that don’t burden the environment. Copper checks both boxes.
